Hβ is engaged in the Avoudale Guineas, to be run in September, and so far his owner intends to send him north for the race. . According to reports, Garanco is becoming affected in the wind If this is really tho case, it is bad luck for his owner, for tho good-looking son of Vasco gave- overy indication that he would act up to the higlrstandard of the rest ot the Madder family. The Southland candidate, Peter, was scratched for the Winter Cup at 2.45 p.m. on Wednesday. The St. Clement? gelding is in t'he same stable as Magdala, and evidently drainer A. l>. . M'lvor intends to rely on the former. Some of the southern! critics think Grey King is very light, and tho suggestion is that his trainer has been very busy at him: It may" be pointed out that the grey gelding is a. very light fleshed animal at'any", time. ; Owing to a slight accident received .while being ontrained at Wellington, joints has tilled; ana the hurdle horse has. not boon worked on tho tracks since his arival at Ric-. carton. . ... ~ ' The Auckland trainer, B. J. Eao, arrived by the Main Trunk express yesterday, and went south last night to supervise- tho final gallops'of tho National Stooplechase favourite, Captain Jack. Can , , who has been tho victim of many.accidents in his time, met with another mishap tho other day. While he was engaged topping some trees the axe I glanced, and caught him on tho shin, making an Ugly wound. , Despite the rumours that v; ere abroad as to,all not being well with Olyflelish, the Oairiaru horse was well supported yesterday for the Winter Cup. ■ Chatting with tho writer yesterday, Trainer G. Jones was very optimistic concerning the chances of Multiply in the Winter Chip. The Multifid gelding is. certainly well handicapped, "and when at his best .he is a clinking good horse over a. mile; None, of the riders engaged at: the •National Meeting should lack anything, on the score of condition, for at the present time the leading jockeys in both '.islands are training assiduously for the annual football match, which takes place on Saturday, August.B. . . Advices were received in town yesterday, of the sale- of the. gelding- Try Fluke to Mr. B. Goldwater, of Auckland, tho price paid being 300 guineas. Tho celding will continue to- be trained .'by ~K. Irwui, and he will fulfil his engagement in the Winter Cup. S. Reid has beon specially, asked to ride the black' golding, but it is urderstood He ' has already Deon engaged for Mount Victoria. ■
