(Dj Bpecial OorrespondenM ~ Christohuroh, .July 24. The weather was delightful at Riocarton this morning." Being an-off-day, little .work of any importance was accomplished. ' Kimbombi, Julian, and Sam Van went two rounds on the sand, the first circuit at a steady, pace, which was increased to a thrce-quarterß pace over thenest round.' * • The Spaniard did two rounds, finishing strongly, while Kilmeny ran six furlongs in lmin.' 24 l-ssec. Kingsway and Curallo ran ...a mile in lmin. 63 l-ssec, and Silver Blaze went three- times round on the. tan "at a useful pace. . ■ •.i (R. -M'Sweeney) gave a satisfactory display in a schooling task over seven flights of hurdles, and some sixty horses were given steady work. The ' 'Looker-on'' writes in the ' 'Evening News";— v . ~ , : "Though' there are. one or two very, nice horses at Biccarton from the North Island, the majority of them are ■not much to-look at, and though they have been racing, and should bo very forward, most or them*look very short of condition. Merry Lass is to make hoi , maiden effort over the hurdles at the National Meeting. . I am afraid sho is much too careful at her fonces yet, .and will lose too much ground run very forward. Don Francisco qontinnes lame in front, but shows no signs of where the trouble is. Night- . watch and Autumnus aro going on with their work quite satisfactory. Tho swelling "is leaving Sam Pan's. hind leg very, quickly, and he should be quite .right when his time.-to race.arrives."- ..: " ?! 'Nothing definite, has-rbeen'heard- .at Riccartoii as to whetlier the Hon. J. D. horses aro coming to the Imeotins or not.-." ; ... So far,, tho boxes. : that wore engaged havo liot been ..cancelled. ■ .-■' ■•'••■. Glenongloy, who used to be a member of Lougloy's team at Riccarton,- and now hails from .the West Coast, is a most unruly- brute,' and a sourco of great annoyance to his trainer. This morning he rushed about the , tracks in any direction except where he was wanted to go, arid behaved in the samo manner in tho scraping-sheds. Though' ■'The; .Spaniard does not appear to have as much muscle as he had twelve months ago, he goes in a much, more determined style in hjs work. Thrax can hardly be .ready. in time ' for tho Winter Cup. Stevedore is coming more' into favour for the Cup' every day, ■v <——. : ; ' ■ ■"

London, July 23. The English Jockey Club announces tlmt the saliva of tho horse 'Uodfinch did not fchow "doping." The stewards tested it because of the horso's unusual excitement before and after tho race. Tho stewards announce that they will occasionally examine tho saliva of horses, in order to satisfy themselves that Kulo 176 is being observed. They will not publish the results unless they discover that drugs have been administered.^ Rcdfinch won the Solium Plate (Welter Handicap) in a canter at the Newmarket meeting on July 16." ' He bad not won a race previously this season, lhe stewards immediately detained the horse, and ordered samples of his saliva to bo taken. ■ The stewards stated that it was not intended to cast any slur on Mr. Edward Martin, the trainer, despite the odds on tho horse.
