STRAY DOGS
CITY COUNCIL AND S.P.C.A. Referring to the request of the S.P.C.A. that the City Council under-take-the destruction of stray dogs, the council last night resolved' that:—(l) When tlie society applied for any such order for the destruction of a dog, .the Magistrate •or Justice of tlie Peace's order should authorise the City Council to destroy the dog; (2) that the' City Engineer instruct the man in charge of the destructor that in future, onreceipt of such an order, he must leceive live or dead dogs for destruction: (3) that the society be informed-of tne above, and also that they bo advised that their request that provision should be made for'destruction of "dogs that are not in a fit state to be on the streets"' is a request for far too wide a iiower, and also-that the council cannot see, its way to refund any expenses incurred by their inspector, such as cartage, etc..and bo advised generally in terms of the City. Solicitor's report." ' .
