HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY: MEETING,

Tho monthly;meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held in the board's room yesterday afternoon, the Rev. W. A. Evans presiding. The following members wero present:—Dr. Daisy Platts-Mills, Mrs. D. M'Laren, Messrs. H. Baldwin, F. Castle, D. Campbell, W-. Galloway, B. It. Gardener, J. W. M'Ewan, D. M'Laren, F. T. Moore, G'. Nash, G. J. Petlierick, Dr. M'Kenzie, Rev. J. K. Elliott, and Rev. H. Van Staveren. The financial statement for the-quar-ter ended June 30 showed the proportional estimated expenditure to be £2837 10s., and the expenditure for the quarter .totalled £2814 10s. 6d., which was below the estimate by £22 19s. 6d. The proportional estimated receipts for the quarter amounted to £495. The actual receipts totalled £535 16s. Bd.,' which amount exceeded the estimate by £40 16s. Bd.

The tender of Mr- H. W-'Lloydrwas accepted for' the supply of spectacles and glasses for hospital patients. The services of Messrs., Isdale and Young, medical students of Otago University, wore accepted provided that they conform to the rules and regulations governing the hospital, and its institutions. The board, it was pointed out, cannot provide board or lodgings. Messrs. Gordon and Wilson's tenders of £4 os. for shifting old fowlhouse and re-erecting same, and £4 ss. for erecting chicken-house,. were accepted. Plans for the new laundry block and quarters for the male and female servants . were approved, and sent to tho Minister for his consent,, on receipt of which tenders will be invited

It was resolved that a home for chronic patients and convalescents bo .established, and that applications be invited for sites within a- radius of ten miles of the city for the establishment of such an institution,-the property at Lower Hutt, owned by the board, being considered unsuitable.

The Public Health Qommittee reported that during the month ended July 10 the health inspector's made 55 investigations regarding infectious diseases, as follows: —Scarlet fever, 21; diphtheria, 5; tuberculosis, 4: enteric fever, 1 ; chickenpox, 20; blood poisoning, 2; infantile paralysis, 1; hydatids, 1. ■
