THE CITY MILK SUPPLY
. (To the Editor.) ■ ' Sir,—Seeing that there is a discus* flion going on in Wellington re the future handling of milk, I would like to suggest to those councillors interesting themselves in this matter to go slow and exceedingly cautiously,. or it. will provo a costly white elephant, just as tho abattoir' has proved with the handling of meat for butchers. Lot the City of Wellington wait for a receiving house.' Until we have one central railway station then tho receiving plttco for the Wellington'milkcould bo arranged in conjunction with the railway. station, thus saving, the extra handling of the milk. 1 I feel suro that unless more care and.more brain power is bestowed upon this matter than is usual with ordinary council affairs, it means to the publio in the near future doaror milk and nothing to show for same. The farmers' yards, sheds, cows, etc., aro all under Government inspectors, and sheds, coolers, etc., havo to be just so or no license can be had. .Now, in turn, if the milk vendors' promises nro kept scrupulously clean and 'have whatever machinery is necessary according to their license, then I fail to see: whoro tho gain of a central receiving house comes in. In conclusion I would suggest to 'those making them? selves busy on this matter to get all the information possible from the most up-to-date milk depots from other centres of tlio world; Thanking you for ■your valuable space, —I am, etc., FiiJi-'RYDER. :st July : 'l6, 1914."
