BROOKLYN DEBATING SOCIETY
At tho fortnightly meeting of tlio ■Brooklyn Literary .and. Debating Society, Mr. Geo. Brown occupied- the chair. The evening was devoted to a "Mock C&uncil." Mr. C. Hoole actcd as Mayor, Miss Tasker Town Clerk, and Mr. Brown as City Solicitor. A deputation was introduced by -Mr. M'Dowell regarding the hail state of roads in-certain parts of the district: Another deputation led by Mr. Kobar from residents of Wadestown, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, and several outlying districts complained 'bitterly of the way in which they had been treated in tho past. The deputations were received, with the assurance that.Mio requests, so far as possible, would he acceded to. Petitions, correspondence, and notices of motion wero -placed before the Council and dealt with; At the next- meeting of tho society the.journal of the society will ba read by -tho editor, Mr. H. Fletcher.
