SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY

. Seldom is interesting and instructive lecture heard: at- the- Sailors' Friend Society than that given List even, iug by Mr. 6; R.' Bostock, a> prominent Hawke's Bay apiarist, on "Tho Wonders of tho. Bee." The lecturer's long experiorico enabled-hirrt to treat tlie subject ill a;.masterly way,-and those present spent a profitaWo , time. Com-' monplace incidents had now interesting light thrown upon them, and in a way that' all could understand. The v.iluo'of bees to the community: at large was dwelt upon, and jit was shown that man depends- upon tlio labours of tho little beo to ail extent that is little realised. Limelight slides were used to illustrato - every aspect of. the' lecture. Tho interior of the hive was exposed arid tho inmates shown at work. Tho life history of the bee,-from' tho egpt onward, was fully explained,, many of the slide's being photographed direct from the miscroscope. After showing the various implements used by tho modern bee-keeper the lecturer showed seniles from almost all civilised lands. The number of i questions asked at-tho conclusion showed the interest with which tho lecture had been followed. A very hearty vote of thanks brought the mooting to a close.
