,- «—: —: — • ■ At the Petone Church of Christ last evening a social, in aid of the buildiiie fund was held, Mr. H. ■ Gainutead presidiiif; over a fair attendance. A proerammo of songs, otc, was contributed to by Mesdames Ashby, Murgatroyd Wright, and Usmar, the Misses JR.. A'uhby, Sutherland, Battorsby, Braddork and Messrs. Delahunty, Taylor, Chamberlain, and Wright. Refreshments wero served by a ladies' committee, and an enjoyable evening was spent. A smoko concert was held in the social-room at tho Petone Fire Station last evening, Mr. R. H. Mothes presiding over an attendance of about seventy members, ex-members, and representatives of tho Petono Fife Board. Fireman M'Cutcheon represented Wellington Central, and members of the' Northland Fire Brigade wero present. During tho evening a musical programme was rendered, tho usual toasts wero honoured, and the chairman of tho Firo Board (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presented two years' service-bars to the following: — Superintendent Lepper, Deputy-Superintendent Ryder, Foreman Shardlow, and Firemen Rose, Shardlow, May, and Selwood. The second annual social, of the Hutt and Petono branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiuers was hold at the Lower Hutt Lyceum last cvfiiiing, about one hundred persons attending. Messrs. A.. Skinner and 6. Grant acted as M.C.'s, and the music was supplied by Mrs. Pollock's oichestra. ' ■---~
