Lapsed for want 'of a seconder waa tho fate of tho following now rulo-pro-posed by Mr. A. W. Bydge (Taranalti District Clubs): "That in nil cases where a jockoy or apprentice is suspended or disqualified for Laving committed a breach of any of these, rules, tho jockey or apprentico bo suspended or disqualified shall be entitled to employ legal assistance to appear on his behalf, and to represent him upon tlio hearing of any -subsequent appeal or appeals therefrom." Mr. W. T., Hazlett (Otago District Clubs) also failed to find a seconder for his resolution proposing tho adoption of a new rlile, as follows:—"The liearing of all appeals, whether to a district committee or to the conference- judges, shall bo open to representatives of th'e I'ress." . : , .'■ ■ Subsequently Mr. Hazlett* withdrew his proposal "that at every hearing of appeals, whether to a district committee or to the conference judges, each party shall bo entitled to the assistanco of a legal practitioner." The Wellington Racing Club's resolution (adjourned from last conference) in regard to the keeping of a schooling list for horses unruly at the starting-' gate, was put to ftho vote, but was lost by .an.'overwhelming majority-—ayes 6,, noes '26. Numerous other resolutions,' amending the rulos, wore rejected by. the conference. On the motion of Mr, H. Priedjander (seconded by Mr! J. H. Porrott), it was decided-. "That in view of trio many and great difficulties owners are repeatedly experiencing to secure tho eervicoa of reliable and... experienced jockeys at race meetingsj''tlie i matter bo delegated to a committee tj investigate; the committee appointed to have power to deal, with tho question .in its widest sense and have power 'to call, for'such ovidence, returns and documents as they may consider necessary for tho investiRations, and to report within sis nwjnths from date hereof to the president, , who shall have a copy of such report eentf to every, delegate; the committee to ' consist of the president, Messrs. Miller, Buokley, Guinness, and tho mover." The finances of the conference were .considered in committee. Sir Clifford was re-elected president; for the ensuing year, . On the motion of Mr. B. W. Alison, the president was accorded o hearty vote of thanks'for his services, to tho conference. /
