COST OF LIVING COMMISSION. A meeting of the, Wellington Trades and Labour Council was held in the Trades Hall, Cuba Street, on Thursday. Mr. J. M'Kenzie presided over a largo attendanco of delegates. The secretary reported tliat the Cost of Living Confer-ence-convened by the council had gono exhaustively into the problem and would probably conclude its session on Thursday evening next. Mcantimo representations are being made to tho Prime Minister arid members' of both Houses to give effect the finding of the recent commission. The Labour Day Committee • is actively at wbrlj and report that this year's demonstration will eclipse all previous efforts in any part of New Zealand.. It is* stated that it will justify Wellington's title of "Suprema Situ." The secretary further, reported that the organising committee havo been very successful in their campaign to strengthen the council. Applications for admission were steadily on the increase. Tho council deliberated on the proceedings of the conference of the unions held • last week in ■ Wellington and decided to' call a special meeting on Thursday, July 30, to consider the findings of the conference and the attitude it ■will adopt in connection with its work;
