Since tlio Internal Affairs Department took charge of tlio inland fisheries of the Dominion largo quantities of tish have been removed from Lakes Rotorua .tlid Tanpo, with a view to pro. motinp an improvement in tbo condition and size of the fish remaining. Tlio annual report ttpon the fisheries m theso lakes, presented to Parliament yesterday, states that since Juno last 14,122 trout (35 tons weight) have been taken from Rbtorua, and 9073 trout (lo tons weight) from Taupo, a totalof 53,195 fish (50 tons). Thesti. aro totals of good and bad fish taken from the lakes. The amount of pood fish taken from both lakes and marketed was 26 tons, (32,094 fish). During 'tho seasou 1506 shags were destroyed at Taupo and Rotorua. Rainbow ova, numbering 875,000, were sent out from . the Rbtorua hatchery to acclimatisation societies during the last spawning season. and also 354,000 trout fry; a total production of 1,229,000. In" addition, larne quantities of trout-fry ivore- liberated in the rivers within the Rotorua .acclimatisation* district-.
