1 ' A CIVIC RECEPTION. A civic reception vas .tendered Messrs. W. E. Davidge and G. C. Reade, the dele-, gates from the Garden Cities and Town 'Planning Association of Great Britain, 'by the Mayor and delegates to tlie Muni-" cipal. Conference in the City Council' Chamber yesterday evening. In welcoming the visitors Ho 1 Mayor said that -Mr. Davidge had come out from the Loudon County Council, and was pre-eminent in his profession. Mr. Davidge was desirous of interesting the ineoplo of New Zealand on matters of town planning. . , In replying, Mr. Davidge remarked that tlioy were very fortunate in coming to the City when tho Municipal Conference was in progress, and 'hoped that tho peonle of New Zealand Would not ho indifferent to the appeal they were niakihg to them in their lectures on town planning, ,<but' would take it up and put it into practice. Over in London- tlioy were paying hiigo sums of money to clear away slmn' areas which, but for their forefathers they would not have had to clear away. The same thing was going on in other countries. In this country,; however, they had not !hod to procecd sr far. Tho population was going steadily fofwaTd. and they would liavo to nrbr liare for a much larger growth. While hero they (the lecturers) hoped, to be bombarded v;ith questions on town planning, and tliey hoped to take back with tliem new ways of getting out of old difficulties.' Mr. Rondo also snoke. To-night at t.lie Town-Hall Mr. W. R. Dayicipo nutf Mr. Charles C. Tlcvle will Bive their first lecture in Wellington. The lectures are free. | '
