-NOTES AND COMMENTS! TRACK GALLOPS AT TRENTHAM. [BT GLEN'COE.I In view of tlio Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting, which opens, at Trentham to-morrow, the track gallops nre being watched with interest. Yesterday's tasks were accomplished on the outside of the course proper, the going being heavy. Among the Parliamentary Handicap candidates on the'track was Haskayne, who went once round and finished fast ovor the last half mile. Bluestone did steady work, while Portraiture galloped a mile at a useful pace. Pursefillpr appeared to have the measure of Gerberga at the end : of six_ furlongs covered in lmin. 26sec. ■ King Soult was associated with Tatimi in a gallop over seven furlongs, the time being lmin. 38sec. Byron arrived yesterday afternoon, and two other Parliamentary Handicap candidates, Sir Knox and FirstConsul, were due at Trentham last night. The latter will be ridden by li. Wilson. . ■ Peary, who is top-weight in the Wellington Steeplechase, strode . over a couple of rounds yesterday. He is looking the picture of health. Bercola bore. a. well-seasoned appearance, and is undoubtedly in. better condition now than'at any previous stage of his career. Present indications .are that ho will start a good favourite in tomorrow's. cross-country event. Rnnid went once round' over ' the schooling' fences, and shaned well. In to-morrow's big race he will .'bp ridden by F. Cress. Exotic is to have the services of. J. O'Connell. Captain Jack, Ingenkender (Julian), and Paritutu " (M'Sweeney) went'together over the big fences, the last-named showing' to most advantage. Ingenkender will have the services of r A. Julian: in'the Hack Steeples, and is sure to bei well fajl'cied. ' ' •Te Onga (J. Admiral Soult (A.; M'Flynn), and' Royal Arms (H. M'Sweeney) jumped '.the hurdles together.' Royal Arms, who promises to be heavily supported in the Wintet Hurdles to-morrow, shaped'in a most attractive manner.' - Cheddar (Kellv), Ruatangata, and Sam Pan (Traill) were schooling companions oyer the hurdles. Deeley, arrived here by the Main Trunk express yesterday afternoon, and on the same train were several other jockeys, .who. will be riding at Trentham to-morrow. F. Committee against his three years' disqualification over his handling of Dumfries at Williamstown was last Friday dismissed. Mr. H. Byron Moore, secretary of the Victoria Racing Club, has kindly forwarded the official list, of entries for important events closed on June 2. Mr. C. W. Cropper, secretary of the Australian Jockey Club, has likewise forwarded tho book programme of his club with nominations closed to date. Among the winners on the first day of the V.R.C. Grand National Meeting at Flemington.was Grand Marshal, the full-broth.er to Master Soult. The Steeplechase \ and Ball Committee of the Manawatu Hunt Club, at a meeting on Saturday, decided to hold the annual ball on August 18, and tho Steeplechase it Awapuni the next day. 'A programme of seven races was arranged, arid the following appointments were made:—Handicapper, Mr. H. Coyle; judge, Mr., Hugh' Gillies; starter, Mr. Angus Keith.; timekeeper,. Mr. J.
