ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
RAILWAY SHUNTER'S DEATH." VERDICT OF ACCIDENTALLY KILLED. ' At tho Courthouse yesterday afternoon Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., Coroner, hold an inquiry into tho circumstances tho death of John Dugdall, a railway employee, who was killed in the 1 Thorndon railway yards at an early hour on Saturday morning last. Senior Sergeant L, Muilaney appearjd for the police, and Mr. ;H. F. O Leary represented tho widow. Mr. A.. Duncan, District Traffic Manager, watched the proceedings on behalf of the Railway Department. ■ Dr.. C.' W. Henry deposed to being summoned to tlio scene of the fatality, "ho injuries sustained by the deceased V'ore sufficient to have caused death. Alfred Diqkel, a shunter, described tlie circumstances surrounding the fatality (as related in a previous report of the occurrence). , In answer to questions by Mr. O'Leary, witness said that the deoeasod attempted to jump upon the wagon, brake, which ran along underneath the body of the wagon, and parallel. with the rails, and in jumping up lie either'missed his footing or hold, and fell head foremost between two wagons. There appeared to be ample light in tho vicinity of the accident. Evidence was also given by Joseph Johnsioh Borgiii (fireman) and Thomas Kirby .(engine-driver). . The Coroner returned a verdict to tho efFcct that the. decreased was 1 accidentally killed by being run over by a railway wagon in the Thorndon yards on tho morning of July 11. The Coroner added that in his opinion no blame was attachable to anyone. 1 ' ; SUPPOSED CASE OF SUICIDE. A case of apparent suicide occurred yesterday, when the death of William Taylor, aged 66 years, a baker by occupation, who resides at No. 51 Tasman' Street, was reported to the police. It is stated that,the'deceased complained of . feeling unwell, on Sunday, and at 7 o'clock: yesterday morning was. found by Mrs. Taylor lying in the wash-house, on the floor, apparently insensible. A gas-ring was lying near the deceased's head, and the gas was turned full on. Dr.. Perkins was called.in, and upon examination pronounced life to be extinct. An inquest will be" held. MARRIED WOMAN'S SUICIDE. ' (Fj Telejraphi—Press Association. " 1 . • Chrlstchurch, July 13. ' An elderly, married 'womiin, Emily Manson, committed suicide at Templeton'on'Sunday by shooting herself, with a revolver. " She. had been in ill-health for some time. At the inquest a verdict of. suicide was returned. '
