BAILLIE PICTURES

An incident in tho French Revolution is the subject of a picture in the Baillio Gallery entitled "The Barricade." This important canvas figured prominently in the Royal Academy Exhibition two years ago. The artist, Fred Roe, R. 1., depicts the last stand of a few men and women before the charging troops. All the-heroism, terror, and despair of the situation is vigorously portrayed by the painter. The bold figure of the woman, who, holding aloft"a fluttering flag and baring her breast, shouts defiance at tho soldiers, is the embodiment of that fierce bravery which tho Frenchwoman has so often displayed in the turmoils and strugnles of her country. '!Tlie i Barricade" is but one of nearly 400 interesting pictures on view in the Baillie Gallery at Harbour Shod V, next Ferry Wharf. This excellent exhibition will be open to-morrow afternoon, so that those who find it impossible to visit the galleries during tho week may have an opportunity of seeing tho work of some of the best, artists in Britain.
