TENANTS WANT THE
For a considerable time past tlio lessees of the City-owned block of land at Pnliiatua known as the Manjalmo Endowniont, have been agitating for tlio freehold, under which tenure the.y allege they would be able to do better for thorn selves than is at present tho case. This. block of land adjoins the borough .of Pahiatua on tho northern side, and i$ leased to various tenants in areas varying from 12 to 209 acres. As the land has only been returning the City Council about 3J per cent, on what is considered to be a low valuation. the Leaseholds Committee of tho council is at present considering whether it would not be in tlio interests of the City to dispose of the freehold of tho block, and invest tho money derived therefrom in some manner that would lie of more immediate advantage to Wellington;
His Worship the 'Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), when consulted on the matter, stated that it was probable that the Leaseholds Committee would report upon the matter at next week's meeting of tlio .council.
