The conveners state that. the. attendance of 25. to 30 was representative of commercial and'farming interests of Ashburton County.- Similar resolutions to those telegraphed from Duncdin were earned, with the following additions:— "That the experience of Ashburton has proved the ineffectiveness of NoLicense, and that the voting as between 1902, when No-License was carried by a three-fifths majority,' and 1911, when the votes in favour ot Restoration wero in a majority by 466, shows that after nine years' trial, No;Licenso methods have not met withpublic favour, and that after its experience of No-License Ashburton has shown, that it would rather go back to licensing: that seeing the experience of Ashburton has been that of all other No-License districts in -the South Island, none of them having shown a three-fifths majority favourable.to No-License in 1911, this . orjiuscil: 13 of opinion ' that the Government should be ■ ask4d to make provision in the new Licensing Amendment Bill for the restoration of half of .the former licenses wherever the votes favourable to No-License fall below... ths requisite. three-fifths majority. necessary to carry No-License."
