A disastrous railway smash was narrowly averted by tho promptness of Guard Godding. A crowded suburban train was blocked at the bend at Homebush. Godding heard a densely packed race train approaching, aild warned the passengers to j um. He ran back and stopped the train in the nick of time. Many hundreds were endangered.
