CHASED THROUGH THE CITY
EXCITING PURSUIT OF SUSPECTED THIEF. An exciting chase after an alleged thief was made by a, well-known hotel uroprietof through tho City last evening.- Yesterday afternoon the presence of a stranger in' the Hotel Cecil was noticed and his movements aroused suspicion. Nothing, however, was dono at the time, as nothing unusual had occurred, and the man departed in the same manner as <i customer might.
Early last evening he returned to th» hotel and instead of confining hinfcclf to the more public portions of the establishment, he paid a visit, it is alleged,, to some of the guests' rooms. When he came downstairs he was pointed out by a ladv, who hid had her suspicions aroused, to Mr. 0. Aldridge, the proprietor of the hotel. Tho stranger explained that he was looking for someone. hut-when Mr. Aldridge offered to assist, betook to his heels, followed by Mr. Aldridge.
