By defeating Thistle on tho Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon, Corinthians havo established a three-point lead and havo practically secured tho 1914 first division championship. Tho game was witnessed by six or seven hundred spectators, who were .treated to a good afternoon's sport. In the second spell tho weight and the superior .staying powers of tho men of Corinth turned tho balance quickly in their favour, and tho result was victory.. In short succession Ballard and Gibson secured corners for Corinthians, and then M'Kenzie got his hands, in tho way of tho ball, and tho referee fined Thistle a penalty. The goal that followed was inevitable. Gibson took tho_ kick.- Thistle, 2; Corinthians, 2. A little later'O'Shoa came into the running, and he, together with Ballard, dribbled into Thistle's territory. Ballard got down almost on' tho goal-line, and neatly tricking two of his opponents scored. _ Corinthians, 3; Thistle, 2. Corinthians' centre-forward then mado good an opening made for him by his backs.
