MAIL BAG ROBBERIES
FROM NORTHERN TRAINS. . (From Our Special Correspondent.) . -, ' : .. Talhapo, Juno 23. .". Within recent <years there have been . sovoral mail robberies on tho Main Trunk lino. On two occasions consignments of cash from the State sawmill at Kakahi were stolen, tho Manunui Vpst office was robbed, and a week or ■ two ago a Hikumutu. settler had tho wail stolen from his private box. On top of itheso- thefts, three mail-bags, containing £160. were 6tolen from a train ■ between' Kakahi and Taumarunui on Monday of, last. week. ' Information regarding the. theft was withheld, but as another robbery of a mail-bag, between Ohakune and Pokakd occurred on Friday, information concerning . tho two thefts /has been divulged. ,In the former case, two mail-bags were placed in the van at Kakahi, and another at ■ Piriaka, but when the train arrived at Taumarunui the three bags wero missing. The, second robbery occurred on a south-bound train. The guard states that the. bag Was in the van after !'.o left Pokako, but was missed on arrival at Ohakune. Detective Coouey is in- . yestigating. - , • . ■
