As a-sequel to tho .sharp-shooting accident at tho Waikato 'Winter Show, William M'Lcod, "dra.ckshot showman," was charged before Itlr. Rawson, S.M., that ho did shoot ujidor such circumstanfcos that had death been caused accusod would have been guilty of manslaughter. Tho ovidonco shewed that M'Leod gave exhibitions of crack shooting, firing at a tall suspended behind him by taking'- aim through a mirror, and piercing holes in threepenny pieces with bullets. In answe«' to an invitation a j-oung farmer, I'fslio Wilson,-stood out in the ring spioking a cigarette, the ash of which JJ'Leod guaranteed to removo with a bullet. M'Lcod fired, but the shot weft wide and entered Wilson's cheek, finding an exit through tho mouth, grazing his tongue and knocking <out several.teeth. Wilson's false teeth also disappeared at tho same tirao. ?l'Leod afterwards gave him £1 as compensation. The Magistrate said ho was doubtful whether there was any scction of the ] a w covering tho offence. Ho thought the question was not ono for him to decide, and he committed accused to the Court for trial, bail being fixed #t £50. MAIN TRUNK SMASH. Auckland, Juno 23. ' Tho charge of manslaughter preferred against Wra. Donaldson, the porter in charge of- theWhangamarino Station on tho date of. the Main TJrunk railway smash, was heard at the Police Court, to-day. The evidence given was almost identical to that given at the inquest concerning the death of tho-vic-tims of the disaster.
