The conference of employers of waterside labour, held at the' Employers' Federation .Rooms, concluded'yesterday, and a statement was handed to tho Press, to the effect that tho decision arrived at would mean a new order of conditions on the waterfroilt. At tho .conference it was decided to form an association of employers, with tho object of improving the* conditions of tho labourers on the waterfront. The association is to bo called tho Wellington Co-opera Li,-e Maritime Labour Employment Association, and is to bo registered under the Incorporated Societies Act, and the.lndustrial Conciliation Act. It is tho intention of the 'association to bring tho wholo of the waterfront labour under one control, and so secure more permanent work for wharf employees. The rules of the association have been drafted, and it has been decided to hold a conference with the officials of the Wharf Labourers' Union, with the idea of securing the co-operation of tho union to make the scheme a success. A committee of management has been appointed to carry out the details. 31 r. T. Shailor Weston has been appointed solicitor to the association, and Messrs. Watkins, Hull and Wheeler auditors. The illness of Mr. R. Fletcher, chairman of tho Harbour Board, has prevented the matter being discussed with him, but practically the whole bf the employers of waterfront labour have signified their intention of joining the association.
