" A painful acident occurred to Master Pat O'.Rourke, son of Mr. T. O'Rourke, of' Otaki, on Thursday. The little fellojv was-"see-sawing" at the Convent School, and when up in the air his companion either jumped or fell off, with ilio result' that young O'Rourke fell heavily. He was immediately conveyed to his home, where "it ,was found that his thigh was badly broken.An unfortunate accident occurred on Thursday.- to the. youngest son of, Mr. ; W..Roach. He was playing on the roadside .opposite Mr. W.'Tompsitt's, when a'boy on a horse apparently lost control of his mount. l The animal, on reaching the lad, made a leap, one of its hind feet striking him on the back of the head, causing a fracture of the skull. The little fellow was taken to the hospital, where he is progressing as favourably as can be expected. Tho ulonthly meeting of the' Horowhenua County Council was held on Saturday, Councillor H. J. Richards (chairman) presiding. Correspondence was'read and dealt with as follows: — From Otaki Town Board, drawing attention to the boulders put on the Te Horo-Waikanae Road, and which were dangerous to traffic.—Attended to. From Emmett Bros., asking for road improvement at Riversmere, Otaki. —Decided to take'no action.. From'ls. J. Bridle (Shannon), complaining of rtibbish de;posited'ou.Jyliaja.Street'i—Left to Counto deal with. From G. W. Taylor offering to buy! bins at Otaki.—Deoided to ask apelicant to put in a tender. From G. i'\ lacken, secretary, of Te Horo Hall Tiusteos, asking'for a: culvert opposite the' be attended to. It was'decided that remits bo forwarded to tho Central Chamber of Commerce suggesting railway Improvements, and improvements to arterial roads ■ for motor traffic. '

Messrs. G. "H. Harper, .G. Kilsby, G. M. Lethbridge, E. Palmer, and Major Addington waited on .the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday, asking- for' an 'extension- of Messrs. 'Monckton and-Addington's road south of the- Otaki'Bridge. -after the members' of the deputation had expressed their .views it was decided that a meeting- be'called to coiisicl;r■ the matter, ,also'that the matter of uiral telephones be'considered at the sane meeting. Mr. Jensen waited on the council and drew /attention to the bad state of the ■To . Waka Road; which led to his'property; - It-was'decided tlmt the engineer and Councillor 'Monk inspect the road on .Wednesday. A:public meeting, convened by Representatives 'of local sports bodies, w ; as held at Paraparaumu on Monday evening, to 'consider what steps could . be taken to effect much-needed improvements to tho local Domain. Mr. Reeve was in the chair, and there was -a large and enthusiastic'gathering of residents. Tho matter was discussed fully, and .it was generally conceded that strenuous efforts should be made to improve the Domain without delay, the ; liccd for drainage being specially, urgent. .It was pointed out "that the various sports organisations interested, woiild gladly assist in any work under-' taken.. After full discussion, Messrs. Reeve,'P. B, Anderson, H. Lynch, "and F. Hudson were appointed to wait on the. Domain. Board,; and make representations in the matter, urging tho board to at once effect muph-necded improvements, and assuring the board of the hearty co-operation .-of the sports bodies represented by the deputation.
