NAVAL CADETS
REGULATIONS GAZETTED FOR NEW ZEALAND CANDIDATES.
Exhaustive particulars of tho conditions governing the admission of two New Zealand candidates in each year as naval cadets at tho Royal Naval Colleges as Osborno and Dartmouth and on board tho training-cruisers aro published in-the current Gazette, together with, tho British Admiralty regulations for-thc entry of naval cadets. Somo of tho special\proviaions ' which apply to .New Zealand candidates aro as under: n J -Two nominations are'TtfsbrrttTili each .•■year for Now Zealand candidates, but not more ..than one of these nominations made at one time. • . . .■...-• .
Candidates for 1 nomination by the Government of Now Zealand must comply with all the conditions required in the case of other candidates; savo rl'-it (aj in., respect of the date and method of application, and (b) (unless candidate is being educated in the United Kingdom) in respect of tho qualifying examination and other essentially local conditions the following provisions will hold:—
1: Such candidates must forward their applications for nomination so as to roach the Inspector-General of Schools, Wellington, not less • than sis months beforo the dato at which they can become eligiblo in point of ago for entry at Osbornc—that is, for the January entry, not later than June 1; for the May entry, not later than October 1; for the September entry, not later than February 1; but no nomination, can be made for tho September entry if both the nominations allotted to the Doinraion for that year havo already been filled. For candidates receiving b'.'.cneducation in tho United Kingdom the application in each caso must bo mado three'months earlier.
No application can bo considered unless it is uiado within tho'twelve mouths (or, in the caso of candidates receiving their education in the United Kingdom, within the fifteen months) immediately preceding tho dato : at which the candidate can attain tho , required ago.
Tho course of study at the Naval Colleges includes the following subjects:— Mathematics, with geometrical drawing, physics and-chemistry, mechanics and applied mechanics, with laboratory work, applied electricity, with laboratory work, engineering, with workshop practice, and mechanical drawing, ceamanship, with gimnory in the training cruiser, navigation, French or German, English grammar and composition, English literature, history, including naval history, geography, Biblo sluuy, drill and physical training.
