PLACARDS ON CANCER.
TO DISPEL POPULAR DREAD. , (By Telosmph.—Special. Correspondent.) ' Palmerston, June 11. At yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Board a recent circular, prepared by the local branch of the British Medical ■ Association, on the prevention and cure of cancer, which was discussed and approved by the board a fortnight ago, came up for further mention. The acting-chairman (Mr. J. A. Nash) moved: "That the circular issued by the local branch of the British Medical Association,' dealing with cancer, be published in leaflet form, and distributed as insets through tho papers, and that it also be printed in large type, and framed and placed in all libraries in the board's district, and in other prominent places. Further, that 'tho Public Health Department be asked to take up the matter, and advertise the circular in prominent public places." Mr. F. J. Nathan, in commenting on tho proposal, stated that there was no doubt that cancer was curable if takeii in time. .'. People, however, wont to doctors' thinking that they were Roing to hear their death-warrant, and tho board should endeavour to make the other side of the case as widely known as possible. Ho thought that they should go fnr.thcr, and ask the Government to have the circular printfid, and- placed on large Government buildings and railway stations. This had been done by tho Government in regard to tuborculosis, and ho did not think that thero would bo any shocking of the sense of decency of. the public if a. similar thing were done in respect to cancer. . The motion was carried.
