MOTOR-CAR GOBS OVER, A BANK

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED,

A motor-cnr accident ooeurred on the Pa'ekakariki Hill yesterday, in which a man named George Jelley received serious injuries to his side. Jelley, who is taxi-driver, residing at Derwcnt Street, Island Bay, was driving a party of three over tho hill, when on attempting to negotiate one of the sharp corners on the hill, tho back wheels of tho car skidded, with the result that the vehicle was precipitated over the bank.' The other three occupants man.aged to jump clear and escape injury, but tho unfortunate driver stuck to the wheel, and went over witli tho car and sustained tho injuries, as stated above. He was .taken to the Wellington Hospital, where-ho is reported to be doing as well as can be expected.

An old colonist, named W. Bennett, who came out in I tho Crcssy—one of tho first four ships -which camo to Lyttelton —was found in a i dying condition in his hut at Kaiapoi to-night, and died later. Mr. George Nash, of Wadestown, sustained a painful injury by a chair on which he was standing in a room in his residence capsizing. Mr. Nash fell heavily to tho floor, dislocating his ahoulder and cutting his forehead above tho eye.
