THE CITY'S ORGAN RECITALS.

Sir, —I write in order to draw tho attention of tho citizens of Wellington to the feast of music provided each week by our City Organist, Mr. B. I'\ Page. Hundreds of people are parading the streets on Saturday night, killing.time out of sheer boredom. Such aimlossncss is pitiable in the extreme. I ask those wanderers: "Why not havo sixpennyworth of organ instead? Why not improve your mind at the price of "a long beer?" It lis sbqcr nonsense to say that the City Organist should play "Maritana" and operas of kindred merit, etc. Such things are impossible on the organ. You must not expect to have your ears tickled. You must go with a mind prepared to be informed, with a tasto (i willing to be improved. Above all, don't judge an item on ono hearing. Give it six. and then humbly ponder before pronouncing sentence j Kemember/, the music is not on its trial. You arc. Only by hearing nothing but the best'can tho public taste be improved. Don't believe these foolish people who clamour for music for the multitude. There can be nn such thing until the taste of the multitude is educated. In Mr, Page we have tho finest organist south of the line—a man : with a sunorb technique; a master of interpretation. Don't be dazzled by the mere technique. That can be as-, nosscd nt no higher artistic value than the performance of a circus acrobat. Listen for the music. That is what will satisfy you. Come along in force then, and lot it not he snid that the finest organist in the Southern Hemisphere is ' thrown away on tho public of Wellington.—l am, etc., v CITIZEX. Hay 31, 1914.
