The Lyttelton Harbour Board this morning adopted ■ a resolution expressing sympathy with the relatives of those killed in the recent Main Trunk disaster, also with those injured. • i Mr.- A. Kayo said the sleeping car .should not be placed in the front of the' train, for, in the case of accident, thoso in tho sleeper were far less able to help themselves than thoso in tho open carriages. ■ , ' ■ Mr. J. J. Dougall said that if the sleepers /night to bo placed at thfe end of. the. train to avoid the .nuisance of people passing-through, then it mattered very little what end tho sleeper was. The chances of .accident were even. It was a" panic matter, and ho did riot think the board sliould deal with it, ' Mr. .Kayo, said there.was less chance of a'train' being smashed' from; tho rear than: in front. The front of a train was not tho proper place for a sleeper, not in the-night-time, at all events. The' car should at nightfall'bo changed from the end to tho middle of the train. It was decided to draw the attention of the Railway Department to the mat- 1 ter of the position-of the sleepers.
