WELLINGTON CLUB NOTES. ' (From a -Correspondent.) After many vicissitudes the Ward Foursp'rnes 1 ' were feot off on Saturday last, and alttough there was a heavy downpour of rain just prior to tho start, the match was playe-'i in fairly g»wt weather» Ptayors started otf armed ivith umbrellas and top coats, tort neither proved necessary. I'ho winners wcro Miss Enid Bell and A. d? B. Brandon, who put in the very good score of 2 up on' bogey, which under the circumstances was a- highly meritorious performance. Miss lii, Simpson and G. 'F. George, Miss N. Bmukioji and C. J. Nathan, - and Miss B. Watson and K. D. Duncan tied for second place, with scores of 2 down on bogey. At one stage of tho game each of those pairs showed indications of putting in a much better score, but as is often the case in similar competitions, they fachxl away towards the business, ofld of the proceedings. -, , The linal round for tho prize donated by. Miss Duncan ivas played on Thursday last, and the witilnat-s wimwr proved to'bo Miss -E.uicl Boil, who'is mow playing an exceedingly gn-od ganKk and is showing -sigfts of doing even better in the future-.. Watt, .t'bo piofe-ssiana!., has a very high <jpiliion of this lady's play, and i$ sanguine that whea the New Zealand ehampienship is played she will bo a difficult player to dispose of. Whilst taking part in a four-ball match recently, Mr. C, A. Griffiths performed rather a un.irt.ue feat r apprpaohijig into the hole twice In the roujid from a distance of 100 to 120:. yards. Just before performing this feat the second time, ono of Mr. Griffiths' opponents chaffingly offered him odds ef 100 to 1 that he could not again hole ont, kit, evidently the odds were not sufficiently tempting and the wager was .not taken. The face of the layer ul the odds would have been a study had this bet been booked, ' The management of the Wellington Club havo very good grounds for complaint for the way in whish. players disregard tho rule as to replacing the turf removed whilst making their stroke. The rosult is that the coarse becomes very disfigured, and it is very unfair to other, players, to find thojr ball resting in a depression made by players disregarding this rule, Now that this matter has been brought before, the attention of members, ii is hoped that there will ho an inlprovement- in respect to replacing divots. ..The writer of these notes recently had the pleasure of visiting tho Ilutt finks, and was very nttieh struek with the improvements effected in the course during the last year or two. Additional holes have now boon provided, and 16 are now available. It is the .intention of the club to provide the extra, 'holes at an early opportunity, and so make it a full lfiihoio emuse, The course is standing the wet weather very well indeed, and the ITtitt residents are fortunate in having sueh excellent links provided for tiierii in the neighbourhood of their residences.
