HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS
TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME. King George V will bo honoured throughout tlie British Empire, to-day, tho occasion being the >i!)th anniversary of his birth. Throughout Now Zealand tho day will be observed as a public holiday, and various functions have been arranged. Tho principal, public ceremony in Wellington will bo tho review 1 of "tho AVoilington City and Suburban Territorials by General Sir lan Hamilton, InspectorGeneral of the Oversea Forces, at Newtown Park. The troops will be in position at 9.15 a.m., and at 9.30 a.m. a Royal saluto of 21 guns will be fired by D Battery from tho hill over Roy Street. If it is found necessary to, abandon tho review owing to unfavourable weather, a Royal saluto will bo fired from Mount Cook Barrack's at 7 a.m., and rod flags will bo hoisted at Defence Headquarters and at the General Post Office, The Otaki Maori Racing Club's Winter Mooting at Otaki is euro to be .well patronised by local followers of racing to-day, and again to-morrow. There is a trotting meeting at Groytown, whore a iiuinbcr of South Island trotters will bo competing. Holiday race meetings will also b'o held at Auckland and Dunedin. ■■ \ For the benefit of picnickers a more frequent service , will be maintained by tho ferry boats with tho eastern side of tho harbour, and there will bo special suburban train services on both tho Hutt Valley and Manawatu lines of railway The chief Rugbv item is tho match at Athletic Park 'in tho afternoon between tile Wellington representatives and Mr. Parata's team of Maoris. An «v«nt of particular interest to hockey players will bo the second annual nix-a-side tournoy in connection _ with tho Wednesday Hockey Association, to bo held at Karori Park. Altogether 41 teams havo been entered, and the contest promises to lie one of tho most interesting evei nold locally. . Two interesting "soccer" matches will bo played on the Basin Reserve. Tho teams which will be engaged are: Y.M.C.A. onu" Brooklyn, and Hospital and Corinthians. At the Opera House- in tho evening "Charley's Aunt" will ho staged, and entertaining programmes will bo offered bv "Tho Dandies" in tho Municipal Concert Chamber, and at His Majesty s Theatre, Tho King's Theatre, aud the h'mpres3 Theatre.
