DEFENCE STAFF

IMPERIAL OFFICERS ARRIVE. Captain C. R. Macdonald, •of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and Captain C. II." Gibbon, of tho Royal Irish Fusiliers, arrived by tho Rotorua yesterday morning, to take np positions with the New Zealand Defence Department. Captain Macdonald leaves by the first express to-dav for Auckland, where he will succeed Lient.-Colonel W. G. Braithwnite as General Staff Officcr in the Auckland Military District. Colonel Bfaithwaito will later come to Wellington, as successor to Colonel E. -S. Heard, Director of Staff Duties and Military Training, who leaves for Home on July 10. Captain Gibbon stays in Wellington, and takes up the duties of Director of Military Operations in placo of Lieut.-Colonol J. K. Cochrane, who lias gone to England.
