FREEHOLD SPORTS GROUNDS
AND PUBLIC ENTREE. A conference of representatives of sports bodies who have, the freehold of their playing areas and the Finance | Conimitco of the- City Council tvas held yesterday to discuss conditions to bo attached to tho concession of reduced rates recently made by the council. In .effect what the council ask is that in return for tho concessions made by tho City, tho sports bodies ' shall mako somo concessions ' to tho citizens. Hie conditions proposed were that tho sports bodies should make their grounds open to tho public, oxcept on playing days, reserving the exclusive right to tho club members to play the games for which tho grounds aro held. For instanco, it was not suggested that any person could go on to a bowling green and play bowls, hut that lie could if lie choso go into tho ground and watch the progress of a game without being considered an interloper. These conditions wero accepted unanimously by the sports bodies, and they will como beforo tho council for ratification at next meeting.
