At the annual meeting of tho Welling, ton Acclimatisation Society, Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp stated that the first troaithatchery in the Wairarapa district was onrrierl out by Messrs. Bcctha'm anrl Rutherford, who liberated fish in tho Waipoua Stream in 1874. The first fish wore turned o\it in tho Hutt River by Mr. Dnnton, of. Wellington. In 1876 Messrs. Dsetliam llros. hatched out 2000 fish at Braneepeth. In .ISei'L the Wairarapa Acclimatisation Society was formed, and in 1884 it amalgamated with tho Society. It was then that the old. hatchery at Mustt-rton was built whieiniiis now.been replaced by a hatchery which is considered to bo one of the most up-to-date establishments of its kind in .the Southern Hemisphere. During-last year 4-16,000 brown trout fry and 2^1.000 rainbftw . trout fry were turned out. and most of these were liberated in streams in the Wellington district. ' ' '
