CIVIC AFFAIRS
CITY COUNCIL MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor-(Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors J. E. Fitzjrerald, J. Godber, ft. Fletcher,' A. H, rlindftiar-sh, B. A. Wrish'tiM. F. Luckic. E. Tre(iear, I/. Jl'Kenzie, \X. J. Thompson, T. C. A. Hislopi H. Buddie, G. Frost, and W. R..P. Barber. The . ltesowes Committee reported that they, had been waited on by representatives of the AVcllington Provincial Lawn Tennis.Association in connection, with the. application of the association for .the.iea.se. of-.approximately two acres <<if the -PJrie Street .Reserve for the formation of tennis courts. Tho association .asked for the draft lease, and plan to., enable thorn, to consider tlie council's offer,. The committee recommended that the-draft, lease,' together with tlie -'.plan, should , bo submitted to' thVN.asso'eiatibri, as. requested. , .Councillor Lu.ckio,laid that, there was now some ; reasonable, prospect of settlement, of the,-matter, as nefr terms had-.been consitlerftd. Tlie recommendation .was adopted. The piitlyins: .Districts Committee recommeiided that some provision should b° made in ihis year's Estimates' for the construction of footpaths in tlie districts, as requested by the Roselieatli and Orien.tal,.Bj4y::MimicipaJ. It was decided thai, the sum of .MOO ] should be placed on the Reserves Estimates to insttl thro* rcgisteriini turnstiles for the Basin Reserve sates: It was decided to advipe tho petitioners for improvements at St. Alary Street that the improvement works would be earned out during the year. Tho Finance Committee reported thattlioy bad instructed the-Tramway Board to report to the council on the question of tho rearrangements of the sections of theJVadestown Tramway
