• The directors of tho. Itoyal Humane Society, havo awarded a-, certificate of merit to Mr. Alexander Gowans, of Kilbirnio, for conspicuous bravery in life-saving. On Boxing Day of • last year' a Mt. Palmor, with two nieces, JKilda and Eileen Faber, woro capsized from a small dinghy in which they, wereboating in Evans Hay. Mr. l-'abor ■neut to their assistaneo and succeeded in (jolting ono child on to his back, and with tho assistance of Mr. Gowans reached the shore. Mr. Gowans, then, secured the other child, who was sinking for the second timo, and after placing her in safoty, pluckily returned and rescued Mr. Palmer who by this time was much exhausted.. Tho certificate has boon forwarded to Mr. \Y..E. Cooks the honorary representative of the Society, and I will bo presented • to Mr. Gowans at tho concert providod by tho Mayoress, ?>lra. J. P. Luke, at tho Seaman's Institutp on Wednesday night. The public are invited to bo prosent.
