ENGINEERS' DEMANDS
CONFERENCE WITH EMPLOYERS.
A conference between ironfounders (and employers of engineers generally) ami 'the. .Amalgamated Society, of Engineers was held last night, to discuss various claims of the latter body. The two chief demands <if the en-; gineers arc that they bo granted (1) a considerable increase in wages, and (2) reduced hours.. *
Although considerable .discussion took place at last'Tiight's conference, no decision could, b, f>.arriybd at. , It is now uncertain? *%t but it proßablo'that"'the Engineers' Union will bring the- matter before the Conciliation Commissioner. ■ , Speaking to a Dominion 'reporter last night' in connection with' the conference, a prominent Wellington employer stated that tho demands of the men in his opinion .srore out of all reason. "Tho iroufounders," he said, "are quite prepared to-.confer with their own employees in tho matter, but the idea of every omployer of engineers being implicated is preposterous."
