TOPICAL TALES OF THE WEEK. Saturday's Weather and Shivers. When one thinks of last Saturday afternoon and its howling southerly one shudders. It was a dreadful day, and the members of those teams which turned out to play in such weather were undoubted heroes. Many wondered why tho Postponement Committee of the W.F.A. did not seo fit to call all games off, and some of the remarks passed by players and officials about that particular body were not very complimentary. The matches were played, however, and two real good games were witnessed on the new ground at Kilbirnie. Two Splendid Matches. . In their match with Thistle, Brooklyn put up a splendid fight, and at one stage of the game the men from tho hill suburb looked like winning. The heavy ■southerly gale, which swept the field of pla3', seriously interfered with tho match. The' game appeared to he much appreciated by the handful of spectators who had braved tho elements. Tho Diamonds-Y.M.C.A. match was also a splendid match to .watch. It was clearly seen at tho" outset that both teams ■wero out to win, and neither of them did so—tJio game ended iu a draw. New Ground Needs Attention. It is stated that an expert has expressed the- opinion that the ground should not bo rolled. Well, all that can be said is that if it will not stand rolling something will havo to be done to it.
Players are complaining about tho surface, and a .-request was made to the Management Committee on Wednesday evening for the Corinthian-Diamonds fixture (which takes place to-day) to be played on one of the town grounds. This was refused, and those people in a position to judge say that this is a pity because the match will bo a good ono. If the new ground at Kilbirnio is not attended to shortly it will mean that tho senior teams may refuse to play there. The Management Committee derives a certain income from tho admission charges to the new ground, and is naturally" desirous of keeping that "wellspring" going..
