LEAGUE & LEAGUERS
fßr "FIEETFOOT."!
Division of Gate Money. A meeting-of tho Council of the New Zealand Rugby League was held recently at Auclcland, under the chairmanship of Mr. D. Wi M'Lean. Representatives were present from Taranaki, Canterbury, Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, and Nelson. A letter was received from the Auck-land-League requesting the council to amend the rules governing the division of gato money derived from the matches in connection with tho Northern Union Cupj and suggesting that in the futuro the gross takings bo equally divided, each team to bear its own expenses, and the 2J- per cent, payable to the council to bo borno equally. "This decision was arrived at after a very lengthy discussion," continued the letter, "and tho League is of opinion that tho proposal is fair to all concerned, even if the cup travels from centre to centre." Mr. Powell (Auckland) pointed out that in tho pasty Auckland iiad been tho happy hunting ground for southern clubs, who had gone away with more than half tho apple. In view of the expense tho local teams wero put to, he thought the two and a half per cent, should bo abolished. The chairman, while in entire sympathy with the projiosal with, regard to the challenge cup and tho percentage retained by the New Zealand League, thought an alteration of rules of tho nature would require notice of motion. Ultimately, it was decided to call a general meeting at an early date for discussion of the proposal. Wanted—Referees. At-tho meeting of tho Council of tho Now Zealand Rugby Football League, a letter from tho newly-formed New Zealand Rugby League. Referees' Association suggesting that the body should, be allowed ono member on the Committee of Management, either from delegates elected or according to numerical constitution, without paying affiliation fees esjch year, was also referred to the special meeting. This request is no doubt a reasonable one, and should receivo the favourable consideration of tho council. In tho matter of referees, Auckland leaves Wellington sadly behind.' The Auckland Referees' Association is a very livo body, and recognises that if tho League game is to make any progress at all it must havo a Referees' Association. The success of the game in tho northern city and tho flourishing stato of the .clubs thefo should set an examplo to local enthusiasts. Surely tho timo.has arrived for a Wellington Referees' Association. I To-day's Games.
It is to bo hoped that tho elements will bo a little considerate to-3ay and allow the powers that bo tho opportunity of selecting a team to tour Hawke s Bay. The fixtures set down for last Saturday will bo held to-day. Tho'New-town-Su'burbs argument should provide sonio good play, and perhaps something olso we can do with—a little scientific football. Each team possesses a good pack of forwards, and tho game, will probably resolvo itself into a struggle between theso. Tho Athletic team has now its full strength, and willgivo the Potono warriors somothinz to .Bonder over.
