ORDER OF THE STAR IN THE EAST.
At a public meeting •of the above -order on Wednesday evening. Miss Home, Natiofi.il Lecturer, spoke on "The Second Advent.' -.What''is it?" TlHjA.<t vent, said the lecturer, is the lajfc of the .Yearly feasts of the Church,' and was instituted by the- Church to keep her in mind of oitr Lord's promised return to eartii, an- event for which the Church has been lookiiag tiirowjh all the centuries since His death. The cwfiinss has been long delayed, and the Church has ceased to have atiy strong oxpertation of that-coming, or to know exactly what is meant. There has crept into the Church, based on certain misunderstood 'passages of Scnptli.vo, n belief that His second coming will be eoinckfeiit-with the destruction of this planet, and will bo jiecompanied by indescribable terrors. This, however, "is
a" mistake, and .according to esoteric doctrine the ''end of the world"- really means the end of the age. Ihc -begin* ning of a- new dis-pensattoii.. Just as tho" Christ gave ' tlie impulse that launched the civilisation of the West, and gavo it Christianity, so will He, on his return to cartli, give the impulse that shall start a still higher civilisation. and by which Christianity shall broaden out into a great world religion. Ho will not destroy the world, but will live, and walk and work among men once more. It is in expectation of this great event in the near future that the Order <f the Star in the East has Been formed.
