AUCKLAND FARMERS' CONFERENCE

Tlio Provincial Conference df tho Farmers' Union to-day passed the following remits:—(lV That, differential rating on tho railways bo abolished; (2) that tlio Government be asked to convey agricultural lime from the nearest availablo source of supply'upon the railway any distance free, in lieu of tho 100 miles limit of free railage as at present. At the instance of the executive tho desirableness of advocating an' alteration of tho Arbitration Act was discussed. By a unanimous decision it was decided to suggest to tho Government that an amendment should bo made providing that no strike should bo allowed to take placo beforo tho taking of a ballot under tho supervision of tho Government ■ officers. ,- Captain Colbeck cjuotcd instances of tho adoption of - unfair methods by unions in tho application of tho secret ballot principle. Ho contended that proper socrocy was not observed and that mombors were oftou prevented from voting in accordance with their desire. '
