THE CITY* UESERVES QUESTION. Mr. A. E. Wells presided at the usual meeting; of tho Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association last evening. • As a result of the Thistle-Hospital benefit match it' was annnuneed that the sum of £24 has b«n bstntled over to the Uppsr llntt Disaster .Fund. Tlie following letter was received from tlie Tovrii Clerk: —
"I r.m dircctjil by tho Iteerves Committee to rail tho attention of your association to the following matter and to leanest that you will bo good. eiißUgh to give instructions to remedy same. Your association svill be required to take steps when matches are being played on the City Reserves, and more particularly the Biishi Reserve, to have the spectators ki'pt absolutely off the playing area. Considerable damage to flic- groins?! has been occasioned during the it-inter months tvhen the' grounds are more-or less damp. Jt is considered that your referees and linesmen, if given instruction on this matter will remedy the complaint-. The committee have resolved that whon any match is being played on any city reserve, whe» this public are . charged for admission, tire association or union controlling such match is to have the -exclusive use of such reserve and the association charging for admission is to provide those bodies prevented from playing their ordinary matches oil suelrground .with substitute grounds om city reserves, if possible. Such arrangements are to be made between the associations concerned, and in the case of. any dispute the question will bo dealt with by the Reserves Committee."
After discussion it was resolved that a letter be forwarded to the Reserves Committee pointing out the fact that as it is tlie habit to play football matches on the eastern sid# of tlie Basin Reserve it, is practically impossible to prevent' the public from encroaching on the ground.
A suggestion has been made to the effect that tlie western side oF the cfonnd should be given to the during the football season. This tTonld allow spectators to it: e the grandstand and the ashplialt paths in the vicinity. I: was also conteaded that tho fence surrounding this particular portion of tlio ground svonlcf premit tlio public irom encroaching on the" field. A deputation; from the Wellington .Keierees Association waited on the committee with a view to discussing tho question of the recovery of the books ■ belonging to. tl» Referees' Association from an offie:fil x who had failed to pro duco when required to do so. The committee assured tlie deputation that it would take action in the matter and bring it under the notice of th* iSew Zealand Council. A letter was received from the sec-; retary of the Wangamii Association ! statiiig that they were unable to visit-'! Wellington on June 3, It was dceidod to donate a ball for the use of Toita School. Yeoman it was decided to write to tlie Referees' Association instructing that body to inform its members that all matches must be commenced punctually to time. As the City Council has granted permission to charge for admission to the Basin Reserve oa Jtnw 3. it wa3 decided that the Corinthian-Thistle match be played on that date, the profits to count for the First Division championship.
