DEATH OP THE LAST SURVIVOR. By Telesraph—Press Association—Oopyriehl (Rec. May 19, 10.25 p.m.) London, May 19. ■ The cleatlris announced of Captain G. Lucas, the last survivor of tho wreck of tho ill-fated troopship Birkenhead.
The troopship Birkenhead, . an iron paddle-wheel vessel of 55G h.p., sailed from Queenstown, Ireland, for the Cape on January 7, 1852, having on board- detachments'of the 12th Lancers, the 2nd, Sth 12th, 43rd, 45th, and GOth Rifles, nnti tho 73rd, lttli, and 91st Regiments. The ship struck upon a pointed pinnacio rock off Simon's Bay, South Africa, and of 638 persons on board, only 181 were caved by tho boats; 451 of the crew and soldiers perished.
