Deelcy, rider of Zetes, was cautioned. Tlicrri were seven runners in the opening event, Opekc being withdrawn. Although tlic first day's form pointed stronglv to Afoii*''i J i l rk;" u '"ftro"Foraeir Jiiaro Princess Moutoa was in better favour. The pair bad; tho finish to themselves, and tho"'favourite -was beaten by a narrow ; margin: Down the back. Formulate .and Avon Park parried.; on the running from Rector Girl and f'rincoss Aloutoa. Itector Girl was in trouble at the distance, where 'Princess Jloutoa challenged Avon Park, and in a close finish was beaten bv a hock. Brunswick was just clear of Kfi'tjjr Girl, who was fourth. Gay Gunrdjjvns cut off at the barrier rise, ami raji in the.-rear'" the* whole way. Patroiiale was withdrawn from the MokoiiCHandicap, leaving eight, runners, JZetes bniuy made"a good first choice.;; At the start," llewi Poto, on the inside, and Simple Sam wcro the first to: become prominent. At the .entrance to. the. straijiljt, the favourite was dono with. the leaders, and a keen stnmsl" to the post resulted in favour'of C!rattan by n head, with'a half length;: bphvpfii.. srnond and third. Hetps. Willi Lupin, and :Glenfern all failod 'ondly. • ■■■■■■ •Paoli:iiiifl"Sam' Tiiri. were evenly eupportod'in'tbr. Hack'TTurdles, which was a pretty race to watch. At the first fence Parawimui and Panli raced toEotlier, and the latter was then steadied, and Parnwanui led St. Gate passing fho.«tniirl. ('Oi)i; down the back, the positions wore unchanged, biit at tho fivo furlongs Sam Pan-started to move up from t-ho rear. After jumping this fence, Paoli was being hunted, but lie stuck to his task, and the lenders tiring let him up to them .as the Inst fence was reached. Hero M'Cabe steadied him, and he lost a bit of ground, but once they .set to again, ho quickiy, enught the tiring St. Gate, and was then hard put to it to stall oflf Sam Pan. A good race went to Paoli by a bare length, while St. Gate was close up, and Clemency was next. The- winner looks like turning out a very useful hnrso when more experienced. Ho was handled in a masterly manner by M'Cabe, who drew No. 1 position, and
nover left tho fenco till tho last ob- ' staelo was reached, when ho was compelled to pull out to pass St. Gate. .'Styrax and Colihey had an interesting duel for first position in public favour in tho Opekc Handicap, and at the finish tho former had a very slight' call on the machine. John Willie, Patroness, Maniaroa, and Kurnalpi wero all evenly supported. At the start, Belle Paul led from Conney, but at the six furloiiEs John' Willie joined the leaders. Down the hack Kurnalpi ran up to tho pair, and was first into the straight. At the distance Styrax nnd Maniaroa came fast on the outside, and Counc.v got through on the. rails. In the best finish of tho , meeting the favourite won, by tho barest of margins frem Maniaroa, with Conney and.Kurnalpi separated by very little. It was a grand finish, and the crowd cheered each Jiorso in turn. Tyson was in great demand in tho Shorts, with Calais next in request. Tho favourite failed to jump out cleanly, and did not get to the front on tho journey. Watine soon got clear, and led Gerberga into the straight. Here ' Vladineau and Calais came fast, but could not roach Gerborga, who won by half a length. Captain Miro was fourth. Calais was on the outside all round the bend, nnd this spoilt his chance, while tho favourite was beaten whoii he failed to jump off. The whole of the acceptors started in tile big handicap.. Cheddar' stripped very well, but Patronale had a very empty appearance. The latter was a hot order, and,'jumping out smartly, he led. out of the straight and down the back under a strong pull. Round the bend. Cheddar was on his Quarters, and the pair entered the straight locked together. In'a good finish, Cheddnr wore the favourite down, and Won bv a neck. Royal Dragoon was a poor third, and Manawakaha was at the llenel of the remainder. Considering the going, the gallop was a good one. ...The meeting wns -brought to-a conclusion with the Boroncli Handicap, for which Square Deal, Lady Amai. and Sweet Van were fancied in that order. Tim favourite had a bis weight, and did not begin too well, hut .Adams'let him 'get on his feet, and at the halfmile ho was within striking distance of the leaders. Entering the straight, bo was in chnrge, and coming on full of running, he won- nicely from Pafronata. Sweet Van was third.
