THE LOAN PROPOSALS
SPECIAL MEETING TO CONSIDER ; THEM. A recommendation was made to tho City Council last night by the Finance Committee, that a special meeting of the council should ho held, at 7.30 on Monday night next, for tho purpose of considering the loan proposals. . < To this proposal Councillor T. C. A. Hislop moved; as an amendment, that the (late should lie altered to the following Friday evening. In doing this he said <iliat they had hoard a lot about tho loan proposals, through tho Press, but the first information the councillors had only arrived a few days ago. To ask for a meeting on the following Monday night was not right. Ho submitted that it was not proper that a loan, involving £300.000, should bo discussed and decide'd on when councillors had not had full opportunity of considering the proposals. They had not, he said, had time to make up their ntiiujs. Only Rood could result from holding the meeting at the later date. The amendment was carried, and it Was derided that the Joan proposals . submitted by the Tramways Board should be considered at the same meeting. Later in the evening ttio date- of the inoeting was again altered, being fixed for Monday, May 25.
