The disturbance was nearer tho surface than that of 190 S. Father Alfaiii, of 'the Florence Observatory, also points out that tho "wrl.v shock* were faint, showing that tho earthquake was not dccp«sctttod. Hence the area of tho disturbance was restricted. Mr. G. Hdsrben, Inspector-General of Schools, who is in charge of the Govern-' ment Sqismotogical Observatory, ndviws that the recent disastrous earthquake which occurred in Sicily was recorded on the llilne seism<H*ranh insialle.l in tho observatory here.' The first slight wave tremors were rwerded on Thursday evening, and the second, of somewhat greater magnitude, on Friday evenine, tho'wavos reaching the maximum on Satitrdav morn : inj. Slight tremors were recorded for ift hours, practically without cessation.
