MILKING SHORTHORN . ASSOCIATION GOOD TKOGRESS MADE. Tho roeently-forincd New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association is already meeting with excellent support from breeders, and inquiries are being received i'rom all parts of Iho Dominion. At thp meeting of the council held at Paluierston North on May 7, several new members wore elected. Ulosa on 150 entries for tho first volume of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Herd. Book were- received, including 30 entries from tho Wereroa State Farm. It was decided to form a South Island executive, to work in conjunction with tho council, and a meeting of breeders interested is to bo held at .Dunedin during the winter show week (Juno 3), when probably a representative from tho association will be in attendance to givo necessary information and receiveentries. A general meeting of the association will bo lield at- Palmerston North on Thursday, June 18 (show week),.to appoint judgoe. . It was decided to extend the time for receiving entries for the Herd Book until June 18. All cows nominated must ho passed by an appointed judge before being finally accepted for the Herd Book, and all bulls must be pedigree bulls of a milking .strain, passed by a judge and finally passed by the council. Entry forms and copies of rules are obtainable from tho secretary, Mr. AV. Hunter, Palmerston North. At tho council meeting a letter wa3 read from ■Mr. Clifton, Government Commissioner, San Francisco, congratulating thp association on the success already achieved, and etatiiiß that lie hoped to visit, some of the milking Shorthorn breeders during his stay in America, and gather useful information for tho benefit of tho farmers in New Zealand.
