STARTLING ARREST

WELL KNOWN NAPIER MAN MISSING MILITARY MONEY (By Tclenaph.-PrsßS Association.} .. ; ' Napier, May 10. ■ A rathor startling arrest was made on Friday night b.y Detective-Sergeant Kemp when ho took into custody a well-known young man about town, Robert Mackay M'lntyre, a prominent Napier Rugby footballer, and an ex-master * of the Napior Hoys' High School. . It appears that, while the defence officers wcro ranking preparations for tho Pakapau camp, M'lntyro was assisting them at tho drill-shed and, since their % departure for the camp, ho had been Riving assistance to Sergeant-Major luckoy. Several evenings ago, as he nnd tho sergeant-major were leaving the building, in putting an. envelope with £19 7a. 4(1. enclosed in a drawer, the officer remarked that, if someone did not call, for the money (it being Captain Bishop's salary) it would bo stolen. When he returned next morning the ser-geant-major discovered that the money v.as missing, and also that an entrance had been effected by getting through -a window. He at once placed the matter in the hands ,of tlio police, and prompt inquiries were instituted, with ■ the' result that M'lntyre was arrested. ■-, M'lntyre appeared in Court on/Saturday and was : remanded till tomorrow.
