*., —< A by-election was held at Lower Hutt yesterday for the vacancy on the Hntt Council caused by tho resignation of Councillor T. C. JJaSvson, 'Coiiwillor Dan-son resigned the Seat so that he could contest the Mayoralty. In this he was defeated and, cwiously euoagli,' in his attempt to regain tho scat which he had voluntarily vacated, he was defeated by Mr. J. Braseil by 196 votes. The voting was as follows:— J.
