UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD
At tho last meeting of the Upper Hutt Town Board there were present: Commissioners R. H. Webb (chairman). P. Robertson, A. J. M'Curdy, H. V. Benge, T. Edwards, and F. Vf. Kemp. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of tho late ' Commissioner M'Goveni, and regret at his death was moved by tho chairman', and adopted in silence, tho members of the hoard and public standing. The county road inspector' wrote, on behalf of Councillor "Whitemnu, agreeing to defray half the cost of tho material required to lay on water to tho joint (county and Town Board) pound building and yards, labour to bo provided by- the Town Board. _On Commissioner M'Curdy's motion it was resolved to lay a three-quarter-inch service thereto.
The executive of the Volunteer Fire Brigade waited on the hoard relative to appliances, and tho action of the executive Was endorsed. On Co'.mnicsioner M'Curdy's motion, it was resolved to authorise the purchase of ■further hose, bringing the total up to 960 ft.- also clothing to complete the working uniforms. The order for a 40ft. bell-tower and 2403b. firebell, held over from last meeting, was confirmed, and it was resolved; to supply tho firestation with a table, hanging-lamp, and a pressure-gauge Mr. C. Laing-Mea-son offered to supply free a tracing of the reticulation plan for the-use of the Firo Brigade.
It was resolved to obtain from the brigade surgeon an estimate of the cost of-a'suitable "finst-aid" outfit for the fircweu's use in case of' accident at fines.
Mr. W. Tait applied for leave to put dotvn his own crossings, and is to be informed that By-law 17 stipulates that the work must be done by the board.
Mr. G. Laing-Meason reported finally on the waterworks, and authorised tho return of the- deposit,'and final payment to tho contractors—the maintenance'period having expired last Saturday. .
On Commissioner Kemp's motion it was respired that the Lighting Committee repart on tho. desirability of installing six or ffitire additional Dietz street lamps, and submit a list <rf locations to tlie boa I'd. Gomniissionflr M'Curdy's name was added to the Lighting Committee, in temporary, place nf ex-Commissiovier Deiinington. A public meeting having changed the arrangements mado by the Town Board in connection with the oilieml opening of the waterworks, and. a deficiency of over £0 having occurred as a result, the board decided'to' pay the deficiency out of the unauthorised expenditure under tho .Public R-evcnuos Act, 1003.
